Dear Colleague,

Some of you have asked for my opinion regarding candidates for the upcoming San Diego City Attorney’s race. The City Attorney advises the Mayor and the City Council, and prosecutes misdemeanor and infractions. This office provides legal advice on issues of critical importance to San Diegans, including our aging infrastructure, our water shortage, pension reform, and the Chargers stadium. I strongly encourage you to support and vote for MARA ELLIOTT and to share this recommendation with friends and family who reside in City of San Diego limits.  This office is a citywide race, which means that Mara needs to reach 1.4 million potential voters.  To do this, she must rely on word of mouth and social media.

Mara is the only candidate in this race who is a trained municipal law attorney. Mara began her career as general counsel to community college and school districts.  She then served as counsel to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board, now MTS, and as a Senior Deputy County Counsel for the County of San Diego. She is currently a Chief Deputy City Attorney in this office and has nearly twenty years of public sector legal experience. She advises the City’s influential independent Audit Committee and the City’s Committee on the Environment. She also leads the City’s Public Services Section. During her tenure, she has reformed the City’s contracting practices, held polluters accountable, and cracked down on irresponsible city contractors. She is an editor of the Municipal Law Handbook, a member of the League’s Public Records Act Committee, and Vice President of the San Diego County Law Library.  She was recently honored as Advocate of the Year for her work for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She is endorsed by former City Attorney, John W. Witt, the Deputy City Attorneys Association, Council President Pro Tem Marti Emerald, former Senators Christine Kehoe and Lucy Killea, and other officials and administrators with whom she has worked.

You can read her biography and learn more about her campaign at maraelliott.com.

Thank you so much for considering my recommendation. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me.
